One-thousand-four-hundred-sixty-one years ago, a young and presumptuous Russian-American geneticist by the name of Antonia Petrova-Fischer, succeeded in grafting, intra-uterally inseminating and hatching at Hybridian Laboratories the first queen (named Doris) of what would later be termed the Gregarious Bumble Bee (Bombus mellifera), which she then introduced into an isolated hive of ordinary honeybee drones (Apis mellifera) bred for their passivity.
